4 Signs Your Truck Battery Is About To Die
If you have ever been stranded somewhere because your truck won't start, you understand how difficult a dead battery is. Instead of waiting until your battery has died, there are some signs that can tell you your truck battery is starting to fail. Here are some common signs that your battery is failing and it is time to replace it.
The Truck is Having Starting Issues
You may be able to get your truck to start after a few tries, but if it doesn't turn over right away, there is probably something wrong with the battery. There are few reasons why the truck wouldn't turn over as soon as you turn the key. If you try once and it doesn't work, but it turns over on the second or third try, it is probably the battery. If it were the starter, it wouldn't turn over at all. This is a sure sign that it is time to have your truck's battery replaced.
The Electrical Accessories Are Sluggish
Do you notice that when you finally start your truck, the electronic accessories aren't running as they normally do? If after starting the engine, your power windows or stereo take several seconds to kick over and start working, this is another sign that your battery is starting to fail. You might even notice that after driving for a while, the power windows will stop working for a few moments until you keep pressing the button. The radio might start turning off and on while operating the vehicle as well.
The Check Engine Light is On
If your check engine light is on but you don't have any other mechanical problems with your truck, it might be due to the battery. The battery is one of the first things you should check when your check engine light goes on. When the battery power weakens, it can trigger the check engine light to go on. This is often the culprit when you don't have other major problems with your vehicle.
The Headlights Are Dimming
Turn on your truck's lights when the sun goes down and head out to the front of the truck to see if they look normal. If it looks as if the lights are dimmer than they usually are, then it might be due to your battery slowly losing power. The same can also be said for dimmed taillights and brake lights. It is a good idea to take a look at your lights on a regular basis, as this is sometimes the very first sign of a battery starting to die.
